Ayatoki was created out of a desire to build a game where players can test and enjoy Japanese vocabulary. Inspired by the worldwide popularity of Wordle, we set out to bring the same joy of word-guessing to the Japanese language — using hiragana.
The name "Ayatoki" means "to untangle threads" — just as you carefully unravel a tangled string, you piece together color clues one by one to reveal the hidden word. That process of gradual discovery is at the heart of what we want players to experience.
A new puzzle is released every day at midnight JST. In addition to the daily challenges (5-letter and 6-letter modes), two genre modes rotate daily from our seven categories: Food, Birds, Aquatic Life, Land Animals, Geography, Plants, and Mythology.
Our word list spans everyday vocabulary to more specialized terms, so there's always something new to discover. Genre modes also display a fun fact after each correct answer, making it a great way to naturally build Japanese knowledge while playing. We regularly add new words and trivia to keep the game fresh.
This site displays advertisements through Google AdSense. Ads are served automatically through Google's program. Revenue from ad clicks and impressions goes toward maintaining and improving the site.
